Sarah Johnson, a proud Indianapolis native, discovered her passion for marketing and digital media while earning her B.A. in Media Advertising from Indiana University Bloomington. Her career has taken her from an environmental nonprofit to a Danish newspaper and even to a luxury pet hotel franchise, allowing her to explore the dynamic and ever-evolving world of marketing. Sarah thrives on the variety and unique challenges in her industry, making her well-equipped to handle a wide range of marketing and content needs for her clients.
With expertise spanning from strategy development to content creation and analytics tracking, Sarah can guide you through every step of the marketing process. Why did you choose to be a VA and why does this lifestyle work for you?
I initially started working with Trusty Oak when I decided to go back to grad school in 2021 as I needed a job with more flexibility than the previous 9-5 I’d been working. However, I quickly realized the potential of being a Virtual Assistant, and switched my career to become a full-time Marketing Virtual Assistant! I’ve now been a full-time V.A. for about 2.5 years. I love the flexibility this job offers as I now have full control of my time and how I structure my workday. This flexibility and autonomy has been great for my productivity, mental health, and overall work-life balance. It’s even allowed me to travel for months at a time and “try out” living (and remotely working) in other states!
What made you choose Trusty Oak?
Trusty Oak gave me the support and structure I needed to start my Virtual Assistant career and I’ve been partnered with three of my best clients through them! It’s nice to have an organization and the support that comes with it, because when you’re a V.A. it can often feel like you’re all on your own. However, I never feel that way with Trusty Oak. I have a whole team and network I can fall back on if I need advice, am looking to partner with a new client, or anything else. Their values also align with me personally!
What’s your superpower?
Organization! As a Virtual Assistant, you work with multiple clients remotely so it’s essential that you stay organized… like, really organized. I do this by using separate web browsers for each of my clients, keeping separate digital calendars for each of my clients, and a good ol’ fashioned paper planner to keep track of daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. I bring this organized approach to all of the work that I do so I can produce high-quality work efficiently.
What is your top program/app that makes your life easier as a VA?
I use a Pomodoro application that has 100% changed my professional life for the better. The Pomodoro technique is a time management / productivity method that breaks long work sessions into smaller, timed intervals. Of course, this might not work for everyone, but I highly recommend looking it up and trying it out if you’re struggling with sustained focus and productivity throughout your workday!
What hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
I love working out – weightlifting, Pilates, running, and yoga are my favorites. I also enjoy getting out to hike, camp, and backpack when I can! I also LOVE food, both trying out new recipes at home as well as new restaurants in my neighborhood. I have a huge sweet tooth but pretty much love any and all food. I’m also a huge fan of movies, both rewatching my favorites from my couch and seeing new releases at the movie theatre – it’s hard to beat buttered popcorn, a Diet Coke, and checking out the latest horror flick.
Describe your perfect day off.
The day starts with pastries and an iced oat milk latte, followed by a walk or bike ride somewhere with a lot of trees, an incredible meal, and a movie fit somewhere in there, and it’s all concluded with an early bedtime.
