We originally published this post in 2020, and it has recently seen a significant uptick in views, which told us it was time for a proper refresh. The core idea hasn’t changed - Chrome extensions are still one of the easiest ways to make your browser work harder for you - but the landscape has shifted quite a bit. Some old favorites are still here. A few have been retired (RIP, Twitter extensions). And there’s a whole new category of AI-powered tools that simply didn’t exist five years ago. We’ve done the rabbit hole diving so you don’t have to.
The internet is a wide world full of possibilities. Endless possibilities. And when it comes to Chrome extensions, the options are genuinely overwhelming - there are thousands of them, covering everything from beefing up your security to boosting your social media game, and everything in between. The hard part is knowing where to start.
At Trusty Oak, our EAs, specialists, and fractional executives spend a significant portion of their working lives in browsers, supporting business owners, managing communications, and keeping everything running smoothly. So we asked our team one simple question: what’s the one extension you couldn’t work without? Then we added a few of our own tried-and-true favorites. The result is the Trusty Oak recommended toolkit for 2026 - tested, used daily, and genuinely worth your time.

A note on staying safe
If we’ve inspired you to explore the Chrome Web Store, here’s our honest advice: always download from the official store, check the number of users (100,000+ is a reassuring sign), read recent reviews, and pay attention to what permissions an extension is requesting. If it’s asking for access that feels disproportionate to what it actually does, trust that instinct. In 2026, AI-powered extensions are proliferating quickly, and not all of them are trustworthy.
And if you’re reading an article recommending extensions that’s a few years old, the extensions might be outdated as well. Tools get discontinued, rebranded, or superseded by something better - which is exactly why we refreshed this one.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy boosting your browsers!
