Client Spotlight—Julie Herres

Julie is the founder and CEO of GreenOak Accounting, the author of Profit First For Therapists, and the host of the Therapy For Your Money Podcast. In this podcast, she discusses all things money and finance in private practice. Julie has been featured on many podcasts for private practice owners and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.

GreenOak Accounting is a team of accountants, tax professionals, and bookkeepers who specialize in helping private practice owners. When Julie founded GreenOak Accounting, she started working with a few therapists. Over time, more therapist referrals came in, and she began noticing trends across the thriving practices. She developed success ratios to quickly determine a practice’s health based on those trends.

Today, GreenOak Accounting’s focus on mental health private practice is intentional and geared towards helping business owners understand the story that their numbers are telling. Julie understands what’s involved in managing and growing a practice and is uniquely positioned to be a trusted advisor to clients. Because of GreenOak’s specialized expertise, the team can help practice owners navigate the multitude of financial decisions that come with being a business owner. In turn, their clients can focus on what matters most—their clients and the community they serve.

GreenOak’s Trusty Oak Story

This year, GreenOak Accounting is a returning client. In 2023, Julie and her team were looking for assistance with executive and HR-type tasks. After being matched with a VA and working together for a couple of months, it became clear that they actually needed an in-house hire to manage their rapidly growing hiring needs. Julie ended service with Trusty Oak, having had a great experience and stating that she’d be back in the future if her needs changed.

Roll forward to early 2024, and Julie reached out for executive assistance. She was feeling ‘crushed’ by the volume of emails coming in daily and struggling to coordinate her personal and business calendars. Julie is working with Tessa Buckley, a VA with a knack for bringing organization and calm to her client’s lives.

Through effective email management, Tessa helps Julie maintain balance in her workday, utilizing a system they created to keep her abreast of time-sensitive and relevant information daily & weekly. She also handles calendar scheduling, small research projects, and organizes her podcast interviews. Tessa’s support enabled Julie to take a stress-free three-week vacation and then ease back into work, already feeling caught up. In Julie’s words, “This was amazing!”

Tessa, Julie’s VA, shared this with us: “Julie just returned from a 3-week long vacation, and her first words to me were: This was amazing! I was able to come back without feeling stressed because I knew you had it handled. It’s been so great to ease back in and actually be caught up.”
